Only 30% Of Depressed Teens are Getting Treatment

Linsey M. English 101

The Mental Health Crisis

We need more mental health resources and support for students. Teens today are facing more anxiety than ever before. With more intense school programs and added stress from home, it is no wonder that anxiety is rising. In addition to this, depression and suicide rates are rising in students. Even if a student recognizes that they are dealing with any of these issues, money can be a big factor in getting outside help. If schools provided resources to students for free, teenagers could get the support they need without worrying about their home financial situation.

The Alarming Statistics

  • A teen takes their own life every 100 minutes

  • The third-leading cause of death is suicide for people ages 15 to 24.

  • 1 in 3 of all teenagers ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder. (McCarthy)

  • Before reaching adulthood, 20% of all teens will experience depression
